The details regarding AKB48′s 34th Single Senbatsu Janken Tournament were released on AKB48′s official blog earlier today.

The annual janken tournament is a rock-paper-scissor match between group members to determine who will stand at the center position for their upcoming CD single. The final round of the tournament will be held on Wednesday, September 18th at the Nippon Budokan arena.

The Details

The rules this year will be slightly different from previous years. All full members of AKB48 will automatically advance to the final round. This includes any and all members of AKB48, and those who hold concurrent positions within sister groups (Jurina Matsu, Aki Takajo, Miyuki Watanabe, etc..). Members of JKT48 and SNH48 will not participate, nor will members who are graduating (Akimoto Sayaka, Itano Tomomi, Mariko Shinoda, Fukumoto Aina).

Members who can earn a birth into the finals by advancing through the preliminaries include 8 members from NMB48, 8 members from SKE48 and 3 members from HKT48. Kenkyuusei members can also make it through the preliminary rounds but are limited to 4 from AKB48, 4 from SKE48, 3 from NMB48 and 4 from HKT48.

The dates of the preliminary competitions are listed as follows:

  • SKE48 kenkyuusei preliminary – July 2nd (Tuesday) 6:00 PM
  • SKE48 preliminary round – July 3rd (Wednesday) 6:00 PM
  • NMB48 preliminary round – July 4th (Thursday) 6:30 PM
  • AKB48 kenkyuusei preliminary – July 6th (Saturday) 6:00 PM
  • HKT48 preliminary + kenkyuusei preliminary – July 10th (Wednesday) 6:00 PM

Counting concurrent members as AKB48, the total number of all participating members are as follows:

62 AKB48 members + 24 Kenkyuusei
44 SKE48 members + 22 Kenkyuusei
14 HKT48 members + 24 Kenkyuusei
43 NMB48 members + 20 Kenkyuusei

The final round is scheduled to take place on September 14th, 2013 at the Nippon Budokan.

Member Graduations

In other AKB48 related news, the graduation dates were set for Akimoto Sayaka, Itano Tomomi and Mariko Shinoda. Mariko-sama will say goodbye to the group on July 22nd, Akimoto will bid farewell on August 28th, and Tomomi on August 27th.

A ceremony will be held for Mariko’s graduation in her hometown at Yafuoku Dome on July 21st. Akimoto Sayaka will have her ceremony at the Tokyo Dome on August 22nd, with Tomomi’s being held at the same venue on August 25th.
