Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) To Get Live-Action Adaptation

Kuroshitsuji Live Action movieFans of Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) will rejoice as the popular manga will be getting a live-action adaptation in the form of a feature length film.

The manga, created by Toboso Yana, is set in Victorian era Europe where a young boy loses everything he cares about due to an evil plot. At the moment of his death, he strikes a deal with a demon. He gives up his soul in exchange for revenge.

Ciel Phantomhive, now more wiser, has become the head of the Phantomhive corporation. He handles everything for the corporation as well as the “off-the-books” work for the Queen of England. His new partner, Sebastian Michaelis, is a demon and Ciel’s butler whose ability and skill as a butler is only surpassed by his demon strength.

The story follows the two as they work to discover the secrets behind Ciel’s parents’ murder, and the horrible things that happened to Ciel immediately after the murders.

The live-action film differs a bit from the manga, as it will be set in an unspecified Asian city in the year 2020 where western and eastern cultures have intermixed.

Ayame Gouriki Signs On

It was revealed today that Japanese IT girl & actress Ayame Gouriki has signed on to act in the movie. Hiro Mizushima has also signed on, and hopes this will be his “comeback movie” after taking a 3 year hiatus to write novels.

Ayame Goriki Black ButlerAyame Gouriki will play Shiori Genpo (main character’s name has been changed for the film), a young woman who disguises herself as a man, and is the demon butler’s master. The butler will be played by Mizushima.

On the announcement, Gouriki was quoted saying, “I’ve been thinking about how to prepare for this role. I’m nervous. Playing a woman who dresses and acts as a man can be challenging. The live action will be a bit different than the manga; I want to make sure that I express the proper emotions for the story.

Fans will have to wait patiently for the movie however. Filming only just began, and the release date is scheduled for spring of 2014. In the meantime, Ayame Goriki has just announced the opening of her official twitter account at @Ayame_Goriki. Despite just a single tweet in her history, she has managed to snag over 22,000 followers in less than 10 hours.

5/16/13 Update: It was announced earlier today that Mizuki Yamamoto will also play a role in the film. She will take on the role of a clumsy maid “Rin”. The character is based on the manga character Mey-Rin.

Why did they change Ciel’s name and make him a girl?!

Um, so Ciel is going to be a girl? How is that going to work? They better not screw this up. I admit, I’ll still see it anyways, but I won’t have to like it. I guess if a girl is going to play the lead, who better than Goriki Ayame. She’s can be pretty androgynous…

This live action is bullcrap. I’m a huge fan of the anime but this crap needs to stay anime…

I’m the same person that comment earlier under anonymous okay, so I’m not racist so don’t get the misunderstanding to what I’m saying; First of all the actor shouldn’t be Asians they should be English people and if it doesn’t have Ciel in it then there no use of watching it this movie is a insult to black butler. I’m a ultimate black butler fan I’m sticking to what I know don’t bother watching this it just ruins it the anime doesn’t even look Asian they look American I have read and watch everything of black butler. I even know secrets that they don’t mention in the manga and anime so this movie is going to suck.

It’s nothing like black butler — the actors looks nothing like them. If they make live action, at least make it look like the characters. I’m a cosplayer so I know what you can do on look a like you can look like them if you have there right people doing your make-up. But seriously, get a grip. It’s not going to be good so you should just stop making it you don’t know what your doing and clearly you don’t know what the fans want. Usually live action isn’t good but that’s cause no one can ever make it right and that exactly what your doing doubt that the people that are making this movie will even see this but if they do, I hate them just cause of this movie the actors look horrible.. I’m sorry but that’s my opinion. I’m saying all of this cause black butler is my favorite show and I can’t stand the fact that there making this and Ciel started black butler in the first place so he needs to be in there but there is no point since this movie going to suck.

The comment above is obscene and rude. You can’t bash a movie just because it’s not exactly how you would want it to be. Everything evolves and changes, including anime. Otherwise, we as fans wouldn’t ever get anywhere. I, myself, am a stickler for a good story line and good makeup, being a cosplayer myself, but if the author chooses to let the story evolve into something new, then we have no right to question them or criticize them for their choice. Being a huge fan of Black Butler, I will see the movie, and support the actors and writers because obviously they support the original story as well. So what if they change the main character? After Black Butler 2, We don’t even know what the hell happened to Ciel, and I don’t really think that he would be around 130 years in the future anyhow. (even being a demon or whatever, parallel universe?) The characters are well developed, based off of wonderful characters in the first place, Sebastian is still around, and so is Mei-Rin apparently. I think that all of us would appreciate it if you would lay off the negative comments about the film, and appreciate that FREAKING WARNER BROTHERS is making a film based on our favorite story. So what if the story has changed a little, and so what if stinkin’ Ciel ain’t in it? They’re supporting the story, the fans and the author. Also, you need to probably use punctuation.
